Preventing Injuries with Real-Time Wearable Technology

Real-time wearable technology is transforming injury prevention and patient care, offering unprecedented insights into human movement and health risks. These intelligent devices, equipped with advanced sensors and AI, continuously track biomechanical signals to help healthcare professionals anticipate and prevent potential injuries. One critical application is addressing pressure injuries—a persistent challenge that impacts patient quality of life and hospital costs.
Traditional preventive measures like frequent patient turning are often inconsistently followed due to the physical demands on nursing staff. Wearable technology sensors now emerge as a game-changing solution, providing continuous monitoring and proactive intervention strategies that traditional methods cannot match.
Key Findings:
1. Real-Time Interventions: Wearable technology sensors offer real-time feedback to ensure patients are turned on schedule. These devices monitor patient movement and positioning, alerting nursing staff immediately if a patient hasn’t been repositioned or if the turn angle isn’t sufficient to relieve pressure. This real-time capability enables prompt corrective actions, directly preventing injuries.
2. Enhanced Compliance: With sensors in place, compliance with turning protocols skyrockets. Studies show increases from as low as 15% to over 80%, reducing the manual effort of tracking patient repositioning.
3. Fewer Injuries: Real-time monitoring has led to a reduction in hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs) by up to 70%. Patients are safeguarded against severe complications like deep tissue damage.
4. Economic Benefits: Hospitals benefit financially, saving an estimated $6,621 per patient by avoiding pressure injuries. This makes wearable sensors a cost-effective addition to patient care.
5. Improved Teamwork: Sensors encourage better communication and collaboration among nursing staff. They distribute the responsibility of turning patients more evenly, fostering teamwork.
Hospitals Leading the Way
Several hospitals have successfully implemented wearable sensor technology, demonstrating its effectiveness:
Stanford Health Care: A trial in two intensive care units showed a 73% reduction in HAPIs and improved adherence to turning protocols.
A Magnet Hospital in California: Turning compliance jumped from 67% to 95%, and sacrococcygeal HAPIs were reduced by 84.6%.
A Long-Term Acute Care Hospital in New Jersey: Achieved an 85% reduction in sacrococcygeal HAPIs with an average adherence to turning protocols of 87.3%.
A Medical Center in Pennsylvania: Over a year, this facility nearly doubled the national average for turn protocol adherence (90%) and reduced HAPIs by 67%.
These examples highlight how wearable sensors are revolutionizing care across various healthcare settings.
Challenges and Opportunities:
While wearable technology sensors excel in ensuring timely interventions, they don’t automatically improve the quality of turns (e.g., the precise angle needed to relieve pressure). Additionally, nursing teams need adequate training to fully leverage this technology and integrate it seamlessly into care routines.
Real-Time Innovations in Action:
The real-time intervention capability of these sensors is their standout feature. By promptly notifying caregivers, the sensors ensure no patient is left at risk for extended periods. Some devices even provide visual or auditory cues to further reinforce timely actions, making them a proactive tool in patient safety.
The Way Forward:
Wearable sensors are not a stand-alone solution but a vital component of a comprehensive prevention program. When paired with strategies like regular skin assessments and nutritional support, these devices can revolutionize how hospitals address pressure injuries.

I present to you, the Iterator oc number two, the child that refused to be named, now having many, hah! _(:3 」∠)_
While I adore the true name I finally scrambled for him, and couldn't resist disclosing it, for lore reasons it'd be best to address him with his title;
Sentinel Of The Unforgiven, [SOTU] or just The Sentinel.
This one's novel is even longer, so for those who don't have the patience, the trivia board on the ref is a pretty good TLDR! ^^);
This guy needs to have quite a few more clarifications made first, as I'm stepping quite further away from the canon here, and even more into fanfiction/AU territory.
Some background;
[We're talking about one and the same group Three Signals (TS) is included in. They are neighbours of Sliver Of Straw, far away from in-game locations.]
- This group exists in a very mountainous area, and from the very beginning, the Benefactors decided it's more efficient to use their already existing underground tunnels (from drilling for Void Fluid) as a transportation modus; turned into an underground train system for Iterator construction process. That system runs quite far into the group, connecting Iterators like roots, with SOTU at the near center (first one built in the area).
- Due to some harsh weather conditions and poor decisions the city was equipped with "wind-breaking" walls, giving a quite claustrophobic effect. Citizens began feeling discomfort there even before resource problems.
- Once the resource demand problem became eminent, the citizens expressed lack of care or attachment to the city and/or the Iterator. It was agreed upon to simply use the underground trains to relocate to now already standing, various newer cities.
- The justice system is... blurry at best. This post is getting too long already so I'll fully explain it another time; for now it's only important to know SOTU is not the one judging the criminals, he merely holds them up to the verdict.
- The notion of "a stay in SOTU's city feels like a punishment in itself" became wide spread amongst the Benefactors. In face of necessity it evolved into an effort to make it a reality; SOTU was repurposed into a prison facility. Instead of upgrading him to be able to be more habitable, they completed the claustrophobic city with taller sealed walls and gates, and a new set of laws/taboos for the Iterator to obey. Making for a secure, depressing, fully automated trap box.
Now more about the Sentinel himself...
SOTU has always been a rather reserved personality that struggled to express emotion or weakness. There was a specific idea he had to live up to, (be it conditioned into him or self-imposed) of someone competent, serious and strong. Giving off a strict, cold and unapproachable first impression. The Group Senior that believes he has to carry the woes of the world on his shoulders alone and never break, in order to be a good example.
However, despite poorly expressing it, SOTU does deeply care about his people and about his peers. And always tried his best to be someone they can relay on, without directly admitting it though. Like a grumpy old man, would chew one out for making a mistake first, and then help them out of trouble, without sparing any effort.
Would never admit it, but feels quite hurt by how easily his citizens decided to abandon him, and resents them for what he's been turned into. He really tried to take care of everyone. He doesn't enjoy what his city has become, he doesn't enjoy being feared. Secretly wished it was a lot more like something that of TS's city... full of life, bonded and happy, but is unable to let go of the false idea what a Senior should be like, denying himself vulnerability to even express that.
The reformatting into a prison only worsened this problem. The new, additional programming discouraged acts of compassion or affection. (So that he doesn't pity the prisoners)
Despite best efforts, his group did not integrate very well. His ways of handling things left much to be desired, some labeling him a tyrant no one can ever reason with. Some just simply disliked him too much to ever relay on his advice. Communicating within the group was difficult, hence why eventually many stopped bothering and kept to themselves, or to smaller private cliques.
The repressed emotional impulses did catch up to him eventually, allowing for small acts of disobedience against the law.
Didn't stop SOTU from feeling it though. And feeling he sure did....
Those efforts were too little too late, inadequate to prevent the conflicts escalating into hostility. Once an arrest warrant was cast from the Benefactors above, there was nothing he could do. And once the poorly integrated group got a taste of connection against a "common enemy" it was over.
Delays, stalling, omitted reports, "errors", "lost" data, "unreceived" broadcasts... All in efforts to keep the prisoner numbers low, and make the stay of those present shorter and more bearable. Ignoring all reports about what was going on in TS's city in particular- hoping to at least protect something SOTU could never be.
(More to come)
TS got hurt, and the lively community on top was broken up. It is unclear who is responsible for the malware attack idea, nor who exactly deployed it, but SOTU feels fully responsible regardless. He wallows in ever growing guilt and regret since.
#big thank you for anyone who actually reads it#you get a cookie to balance the bitterness of this guy#my beloved edgelord child#yeah lets assign the group senior to a mentally unstable prison iterator#what could possibly go wrong?#rain world#rain world oc#rw iterator oc#rw oc#rw iterator#oc sotu#oc the sentinel#pssst remember his real name is lore-wise a secret wink wink#use mindfully

Bruce Wayne being the owner of the Daily Planet is just about the only reason I can believe Clark Kent would still have a career as a news reporter. And to be clear, this isn't a joke about his salary (which would probably be decent anyway since he's a senior reporter), but rather a commentary on the compromised integrity of American journalism.
Consider the news surrounding the United Healthcare shooting. The murder of a healthcare company CEO was immediately met with universal public support for the killer. Pretty much everyone in America despises the predatory healthcare system so much that they celebrated Brian Thompson's getting gunned down in the streets of Manhattan as being well-deserved, in spite of major news media trying to paint the bastard as an innocent victim and family man
Literally, the best defense of Thompson's character that they could come up with was that he was a father, husband, and a successful CEO who expanded the company. None of the articles mention that he had been separated from his wife for years. They conveniently leave out that under his leadership, UHC was criticized by the American Hospital Association and used AI to automate claim denials, forcing thousands of people to go without medical care.
The dead are lionized all the time. But this was a man whose life's work was built off the suffering of others and had virtually no good deeds to speak of. And yet the narrative that news reporting is trying to push is that the public joy at his murder is "disturbing" and "ghoulish" and even "un-American" (genuinely the most tone-deaf take I've seen thus far).
And now that Luigi Mangione has been arrested as a suspect in the case, the news have shifted to dissecting his whole life and laying it bare for people to see. He's a well-read and intelligent guy who graduated from an Ivy League college. He's a 26 year old tech bro from a wealthy family and was the valedictorian of his private school. He wrote a review of the Unabomber's book and gave it 4 stars. He had a traumatic back surgery and afterward became depressed and withdrawn. He wrote a manifesto condemning corporate America. He played Among Us (the fact that a major news company published a whole ass article about this is both hilarious and depressing).
Whether Mangione was the killer or not, the media is airing out any and all details of his personal history. But most of the articles I've seen aren't trying to analyze what would have led to an otherwise normal guy to assassinate a healthcare CEO. Because it's obvious to anyone who knows anything about American healthcare. Instead it's all talk about how he was "yelling at the press" and not about what he was yelling ("This is completely unjust and an insult to the intelligence of the American people and their lived experience").
90% of American media is owned by 6 conglomerates. It's in their best interest to diminish sympathy for someone like Mangione, who spoke out against the corporate robber barons. It's in their best interest to make people think he's a radical nutjob, a privileged college snob, a violent right-winger- anything that makes him less relatable to the people who are supporting him. And it's working.
Already we're seeing people across the political spectrum getting hung up on whether Mangione is a hero or not because his cousin is a Republican, his family was wealthy, he was college-educated, he's a cis straight white male, etc. It's worth noting that he hasn't even been extradited from Pennsylvania to New York yet, much less been put on trial or found guilty. And even if he was, his identity is not the point.
We must stop looking at the trees and take a step back to see that the entire forest was planted to prevent us from seeing the palace behind it.
#luigi mangione#united healthcare#ceo assassination#uhc ceo#uhc shooter#uhc assassin#journalism#clark kent#superman#bruce wayne#batman#dc comics#Actually I think Jimmy Olsen currently owns the Daily Planet in comics#but he also would support Clark ethically reporting the truth so#bring back muckrakers we need them more than ever

For the request can I please have yandere Topaz x spy reader?
Yandere!Topaz x Spy!Reader
The IPC headquarters was an untouchable fortress, at least, that’s what they wanted everyone to believe. You had slipped through tighter security before, evaded sharper eyes, and walked away from more perilous operations unscathed. This was just another job. Another mission. Another untouchable figure to dismantle.
Topaz, Senior Manager of Strategic Investments, was the target. Her role in the IPC made her a dangerous opponent, but also an invaluable asset to your employer. You only needed to extract classified financial records, just enough to tip the scales. A clean job, no blood, no alarms, just data.
Everything had gone smoothly.
You bypassed security systems, wove through automated patrols, and reached the data archives without a hitch. The files loaded onto your drive in seconds. A flawless escape was within reach, that is, until you turned around.
She was waiting. Topaz stood casually in front of the exit, arms crossed, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips. Her eyes gleamed with something unsettling, mostly amusement, curiosity, control.
"Wow" she mused, "I have to admit, you’re pretty good. Most people don’t make it this far without setting off at least a dozen alarms."
You had been careful. Every precaution taken. Every measure accounted for.
As if reading your mind, Topaz lifted her wrist, revealing a sleek IPC communicator. "The moment you entered the building, I had my security feed rerouted. Instead of alerting my subordinates, I let you walk right in. I wanted to see how far you'd get before realizing..." She tilted her head, a smirk forming.
"You were never in control."
Heat burned at the back of your neck. "Then why wait? Why let me get this far if you knew?"
She chuckled. "Because watching you work was fun. And because, sweetheart, I think we can help each other."
Your breath steadied as your mind raced. If she wasn’t alerting security, she wanted something. This wasn’t an immediate death sentence, it was a game. And if she wanted to play, you would find a way to win.
"What kind of help?" you asked, voice carefully neutral.
Topaz’s smile widened as she stepped closer, her heels clicking softly against the floor. "A deal, of course. You’re talented, resourceful, and bold. The kind of person I like keeping around. So here’s my offer: work for me."
"Not as an IPC agent" she continued, her tone sweet, coaxing, "but as my personal informant. I have... competitors who need watching, tasks that require someone with your skill set." She brushed a hand through her hair, her voice dropping to a near whisper. "In exchange, I'll make sure no one knows you were ever here. No bounty on your head, no retaliation from the IPC, no mysterious 'disappearances' in the night."
It sounded too good. There had to be a catch.
"...And if I refuse?"
Topaz sighed, feigning disappointment. "Then I let my security system do its job, and, well..." She gestured lazily. "You know how the IPC deals with trespassers. Your real employer won't come save you. You'll just be another loose end tied up."
You needed time. A chance to find a weakness, to flip the game back in your favor.
You exhaled, slowly. "Fine. I'll hear the terms."
Topaz beamed. "Good choice! You won’t regret it."
For a moment, it almost seemed like you wouldn’t. The first few tasks were simple, easy, and manageable, gathering intel, dropping misinformation, a few falsified reports. But then, slowly, the conditions began to change.
At first, it was extra tasks. Then, it was little details that didn’t quite match what you originally agreed to. And by the time you realized just how deep you were, the walls had already closed in. You weren’t an idiot. You knew from the start that Topaz's deal was too good to be true.
Numby, her ever-present companion, had taken an odd interest in you. The chubby trotter followed you around constantly, snuffling at your pockets like it expected you to start producing money.
One time, you caught it trying to chew through your coat.
“Numby, no.”
The little trotter blinked up at you innocently.
“I told you” Topaz had chuckled, leaning lazily against her desk, “Numby’s got a good eye for investments. And you?” She smirked. “You're a very valuable asset.”
You didn’t like how she said that.
You liked it even less when you started noticing the subtle shifts in her behavior.
At first, it was small things. The way your “assignments” started requiring more personal involvement. The way she casually dropped your name into IPC circles, slipping you into places you had no business being. The way Numby had started curling up in your lap without invitation, as if marking you as hers.
Your usual informants suddenly wanted nothing to do with you. Your safe houses mysteriously stopped being “safe.” Every attempt to create an exit route was subtly, effortlessly blocked.
The final straw came when you tried to leave the planet.
You had booked an anonymous ticket on a cargo ship, something low-profile, something outside of IPC jurisdiction. But when you arrived at the dock, a familiar voice rang out.
“Ohhh, I knew you’d try something like this.”
You whipped around.
Topaz stood a few feet away, arms crossed, eyes gleaming with amusement. Numby floated beside her, its little snout twitching as if sniffing out your escape attempt like a financial miscalculation.
Your stomach twisted. "How?"
She clicked her tongue, shaking her head as if disappointed. “Come on, sweetheart, do you really think I’d let you walk out of a contract so easily?”
"This wasn’t in the deal."
Topaz’s lips curled. “Mmm... No, but I am IPC, and you did agree to work for me indefinitely. Did you really not read the fine print?”
A holo-screen flickered to life beside her, displaying an altered version of your agreement. There—right at the bottom, in the tiniest, most infuriatingly vague text—you saw it:
"Duration: Until Manager Topaz deems the contract fulfilled."
"You rigged it."
Topaz grinned. "I refined it."
You took a step back. "This is insane. I never agreed to—"
"Sure you did! You just thought you could outsmart me." Her expression softened, almost fond. "But I like that about you. You keep things interesting."
Numby let out a happy squeak and nudged your leg.
You stared at them both. "You can't keep me here."
Topaz let out a slow, thoughtful hum. Then she smiled, bright and sweet.
"Numby?"
The little trotter chirped, then suddenly lunged for your ticket, chomping it out of your hand.
"NUMBY—!"
Too late. The stub was gone, devoured in one decisive bite. The tiny beast swallowed, then let out a smug snuffle, as if personally securing your financial—and physical ruin.
You gawked. "Did you just—”
Topaz stifled a laugh behind her hand. “Ahhh, Numby, good work! Always watching out for bad investments.”
Numby chirped in agreement.
You clenched your jaw, fury simmering beneath your skin. "I am not an investment."
Topaz hummed, stepping forward until she was just inches away. “Oh, but you are. A valuable one. And as long as you keep trying to leave…”
Her fingers brushed along your wrist, feather-light, yet iron in intent.
“…I’ll just have to keep reminding you where you belong.”
Numby let out a delighted snuffle.
You had never hated a tiny financial advisor more in your life.
Posing as Topaz’s subordinate had been a desperate move. You needed to buy time to find a weakness, an escape route, anything that could get you out of her grip.
But now, standing beside her in an IPC-investigated fraud case, you were beginning to regret it.
The boardroom was silent. A collection of high-ranking IPC officials sat around the table, their holo-screens filled with financial reports, transaction histories, and legal documents. A high-profile businessman had been accused of embezzlement, and it was Topaz’s job to untangle the mess.
Technically, it wasn’t your job. But since Topaz had smugly introduced you as her "trusted assistant", you had no choice but to play along.
Numby sat on the table beside you, snuffling at the paperwork.
You shot Topaz a side glance. "You’re enjoying this way too much."
She smiled sweetly. "Of course I am. You look cute when you’re pretending to follow orders."
The meeting dragged on, the accused businessman sweating under the weight of the IPC’s scrutiny. Every time he tried to defend himself, Topaz countered with ironclad numbers. He was cornered. Almost.
But something felt off. A discrepancy in the financial records. A missing link.
You glanced at the reports again, scanning quickly. Then, you saw it-an insignificant-looking transaction, hidden within a cluster of minor expenses. But the pattern…
It was deliberate. A shell account. A decoy. The real funds were funneled elsewhere.
Topaz was still talking, smoothly dismantling the businessman’s weak excuses. You leaned in slightly, your voice low.
"He's hiding it through secondary shell accounts. Check the linked subsidiaries in column D—there’s a laundering trail."
Topaz stilled.
Then, a slow, delighted smile spread across her lips.
"Ahhh, I knew keeping you was a good idea."
Without hesitation, she pulled up the subsidiary records. One glance was all she needed.
"Well, well," she mused, cutting through the businessman’s last defense like a blade. “It looks like someone’s been playing very dirty.”
The room tensed. A few keystrokes later, and the final proof was displayed for all to see.
The businessman turned pale.
The IPC officials murmured in approval.
Numby let out a triumphant chirp.
And Topaz?
She turned to you and whispered, “I think I like you even more now.”

Hey my dear mutual! Another super stupid and weird request coming, so, please, feel totally free to ignore completely if you want, really. So, let's say instead of a criminal organization, the Akatsuki are actually a lab team. Which would be their roles, their work focus or their research topics? How would they behave at work with each other or, I don't know, whatever you can think of. Inspired by your agar plates post, by the way, hahahaha
Hello Sasuke, my dear. Don't call your asks weird, I love how creative they are! If anyone wants to write a fic about this please TAG me!
Big thanks to @the-real-sasuke-uchiha for requesting!
The Akatsuki in a modern research lab AU
Akatsuki Labs, Inc. No one knows what they're actually researching, and how they get their funding, however everyone hires them, they're incredibly popular with institutions and businesses alike...
Deidara is a lab rookie who is still at the beginning of his study. He went to a scientific high school and an absolute ace at chemistry. Besides studying chemistry, his other major is pyrotechnical engineering. He blows shit up on the regular and even adds copper sulphate to fires when he is the one supposed to put them out. He frequently steals minerals from the lab to use them for his pottery projects. And yes, he knows how to make meth.
Hidan is on his way to become a neurologist. He is fascinated by the way the nervous system works (especially while processing pain) and has the ego of a neurosurgeon twice his age. However he is regularly asked for a second opinion because he knows his shit. He's pretty popular with the ladies due to his confidence, however many of them are freaked out when they find out what a huge masochist he is.
I've never seen Itachi as a huge stem guy, but I've actually had a discussion about this with my dear moots @pet-plasma-bubble and @suki91 and came to the conclusion that he's either a plant biologist or studies medicine because he's one of these kids with a chronic and/or underdiagnosed illness going into medicine to make a change. Plant biologist!Itachi regularly talks to his plants when no one is looking and he gives them names as well. He doesn't really care much for the actual lab work and prefers to take care of the plants in the different lab greenhouses. Med student!Itachi is one of these anatomy girlies who draw their stuff in fancy colors and actually enjoy studying human anatomy.
Kakuzu is a senior scientist/professor who initially studied pharmacology/pharmacy to save many lives and prolong the lives of millions, but eventually got disillusioned and sold his soul to the pharma industry. He should technically be retired now, but he joined the Akatsuki labs inc to make some money on the side.
Kisame started out as a marine biologist specializing in shark research, however, seeing these beautiful, innocent creatures get bastardized by Hollywood and pollution made him apply to Akatsuki labs inc to help find solutions to the current crises caused by humanity. During his free time, he volunteers in a dolphin rehabilitation center.
Konan is the cofounder of Akatsuki labs inc, everyone respects her and even looks up to her. Once a brilliant scientist in the field of engineering, she got tired of how male dominated it was and how her male colleagues kept getting the credit for her ideas. She frequently holds lab courses for young girls interested going into the scientific field.
Nagato is the Akatsuki labs founder, and rarely seen in the lab. He has made himself a name in the field of robotics by inventing the Shurado robotics system which helps millions of automated machines run to this day. Rarely seen in the lab, he communicated with his employees via his Pain Alias Email. though to be fair, Konan writes most of these emails for him; she's the only one regularly talking to him face-to-face.
Orochimaru is a geneticist and biochemist, his focus being finding ways to avoid cellular decay, as well as the human genome and anti aging research. His parents are academics as well and he lived up to their expectations to the fullest. He has his own skincare formula which keeps him looking snatched at all times. Given the rumors about several scientific ethical code violations, everyone is kinda scared of him except for his personal lab tech, Kabuto.
Sasori is a renowed mortician who's also very interested in histology. His preparation techniques are unmatched and he even invented new preparation- and histological staining methods, which are called "Red Sand" and "Red Technique", respectively. He often gets into fights with Kakuzu about his microtome collection being unnecessarily expensive.
Tobi is the Akatsuki labs CEO cosplaying as a clueless intern that always steals from the candy bowl in the waiting room. In reality, he has a PHD in physics, his thesis being about rifts in space time and interdimensional interactions, however all of his papers are published under an alias. He has a soft spot for Deidara and refuses to fire him despite the latter's frequent "accidents".
Zetsu is a biological anthropologist fascinated by human evolution and human behavior. Some think even his colleagues are subjects of his studies. Some people say he's two-faced, but he is very chatty and inquisitive most of the time. He volunteered to have Itachi's venus fly traps in his office and can sometimes be seen feeding them dead flies or mosquitoes.

Meet the Remnant, my "slugcat" oc. Because I have no sense of moderation, it has an entire campaign loosely mocked up in my head- I don't have the modding ability or time to make anything of it but I enjoy thinking about it! The two iterators on the sheet are the central npcs of the campaign.
Remnant is larger, more aquatic, and faster on all fours than a slugcat. It struggles to use the same tools, carries items in its mouth, and can eat batnip and bubble weed. And, though it doesn’t know it, it is one of the last four of its kind left.
More about the campaign below VVV
BONUS: Remnant obviously resembles a slugcat, and they are sort of a slugcat ancestor! The genomes of the pipe slugs slugcats evolved from had remnant DNA as well as the simple tool-worm base that ancients used for many creatures. The blueprints were present in the modified organisms, and over several generations and mutations began to express themselves once more. Anyway…
To start, the Remnant is living with their family in an idyllic natural landscape much like survivor and monk at the beginning of their campaigns. The incident kickstarting their journey would be them wandering off from their kin and- gameplay starts here- getting lured off by something interesting, before the wall closes quickly behind them and the player realizes they have been trapped. They find themselves in a crate lined with wet plant matter, which gets shaken and turned around for a bit before settling down. It continues with a gentler rattling and remnant is clearly being taken somewhere, but the game acts like you're in a den and, once you've eaten the food set out for you in there, you sleep.
You are woken when the train carrying you crashes. You are able to escape and wind up in a light drizzle. Numerous overseers, some purple and others seafoam green, follow you around. The artificial, dilapidated surroundings are alien to the remnant.
During the first cycle an overseer will direct you to the nearest den, but you don’t have a rain timer until the first time you hibernate. You’ve never experienced rain like this before, after all.
The fact is that the remnant and their family are primal fauna, from the old world before bioengineering and iterators. They have spent their whole lives in a carefully controlled environment, maintained at first by ancients and then the systems the ancients left behind. The mass ascension happened, and nobody really knew what to do with these creatures- depending on the species, animals in captivity were generally released to fend for themselves or set for years of being maintained by machines scheduled in advanced, automated to care for them.
Remnant is taken when the iterator Ink Stained Palms orders a specimen of one relatively hardy species to study and potentially have the rest delivered to their regions. Something goes wrong- their delivery is sabotaged by their semi-active former senior, Calls To Stony Skies. And out Remnant goes into an alien land, with each of the two rival iterators trying to lure or force it to go to them.
This generally takes the form of projections like Iggy uses to get the slugcats to Moon, though it’s two different kinds of overseer guiding you in opposite directions at the same time. There may also be introduced environmental hazards- some of the chases in Little Nightmares come to mind- to corral you toward wherever the iterator causing it wants you to go.
ISP was the one who was getting the remnant delivered to her facility. They’re a bioengineer interested in long-term ecosystem restoration. It’s come to believe there’s a natural ‘balance’ to the world that could, in time, let living things leave the cycle of their own accord if it was realigned properly.
CTSS is in a condition not unlike spearmaster moon, though his decline has been steadier and over a longer period of time. They’ve been replaced by another iterator as group senior, and derailed your journey in the hopes of using a rare animal as collateral to get ISP’s help. Watching the remnant’s struggle to survive, however, he ends up very attached to it and can’t bring himself to kill it as he originally planned to.
Though they might want to, CTSS can’t save the remnant from a more insidious fate. The air, the soil, the water itself is toxic to you, whose kind has lived countless generations shielded from the heavy metal byproducts of industry and the artificial metabolisms of those great boxes in the sky. Ascension is an option, but so is going to ISP, whose body itself possesses a complex with artificial environments much like the one you began in. It can’t protect the remnant fully, but it can offer them a longer life. There are multiple endings to the campaign, based on the order you visit the iterators in.
If you read all this thank you so much and feel free to send questions!! About my little guys.

I ride the subway. One of the things the subway has is this automated announcement that plays like ever 15-20 minutes. It always starts by asking "Is this your first time riding?" (No) and then proceeds to give some random safety information. Don't play on the escalators. Don't run on the platforms. Don't lick the electrified third rail. Stuff like that. Then it says "Be mindful of the seating reserved for senior citizens and people with disabilities." Followed by "We care about your safety and want to see you again."
And I can't help but feel like its implying that if you are not mindful of the seating for senior citizens and people with disabilities, they will end you. Piss them off? You'll disappear never to be seen again.
Stay safe. Don't take their seats. And if you do, only god can help you, because the subway system sure ain't going to do it.

Artemis III core stage receives thermal protection coating
NASA completed another step to ready its SLS (Space Launch System) rocket for the Artemis III mission as crews at the agency's Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans recently applied a thermal protection system to the core stage's liquid hydrogen tank.
Building on the crewed Artemis II flight test, Artemis III will add new capabilities with the human landing system and advanced spacesuits to send the first astronauts to explore the lunar South Pole region and prepare humanity to go to Mars. Thermal protection systems are a cornerstone of successful spaceflight endeavors, safeguarding human life, and enabling the launch and controlled return of spacecraft.
The tank is the largest piece of SLS flight hardware insulated at Michoud. The hardware requires thermal protection due to the extreme temperatures during launch and ascent to space—and to keep the liquid hydrogen at minus 423 degrees Fahrenheit on the pad prior to launch.
"The thermal protection system protects the SLS rocket from the heat of launch while also keeping the thousands of gallons of liquid propellant within the core stage's tanks cold enough. Without the protection, the propellant would boil off too rapidly to replenish before launch," said Jay Bourgeois, thermal protection system, test, and integration lead at NASA Michoud. "Thermal protection systems are crucial in protecting all the structural components of SLS during launch and flight."
In February, Michoud crews with NASA and Boeing, the SLS core stage prime contractor, completed the thermal protection system on the external structure of the rocket's liquid hydrogen propellant fuel tank, using a robotic tool in what is now the largest single application in spaceflight history.
IMAGE: Teams at NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans move a liquid hydrogen tank for the agency’s SLS (Space Launch System) rocket into the factory’s final assembly area on April 22, 2025. The propellant tank is one of five major elements that make up the 212-foot-tall rocket stage. Credit: NASA/Steven Seipel
The robotically controlled operation coated the tank with spray-on foam insulation, distributing 107 feet of the foam to the tank in 102 minutes. When the foam is applied to the core stage, it gives the rocket a canary yellow color. The Sun's ultraviolet rays naturally "tan" the thermal protection, giving the SLS core stage its signature orange color, like the space shuttle external tank.
While it might sound like a task similar to applying paint to a house or spraying insulation in an attic, it is a much more complex process. The flexible polyurethane foam had to withstand harsh conditions for application and testing. Additionally, there was a new challenge: spraying the stage horizontally, something never done previously during large foam applications on space shuttle external tanks at Michoud. All large components of space shuttle tanks were in a vertical position when sprayed with automated processes.
Overall, the rocket's core stage is 212 feet with a diameter of 27.6 feet, the same diameter as the space shuttle's external tank. The liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen tanks feed four RS-25 engines for approximately 500 seconds before SLS reaches low Earth orbit and the core stage separates from the upper stage and NASA's Orion spacecraft.
"Even though it only takes 102 minutes to apply the spray, a lot of careful preparation and planning is put into this process before the actual application of the foam," said Boeing's Brian Jeansonne, the integrated product team senior leader for the thermal protection system at NASA Michoud.
"There are better process controls in place than we've ever had before, and there are specialized production technicians who must have certifications to operate the system. It's quite an accomplishment and a lot of pride in knowing that we've completed this step of the build process."
The core stage of SLS is the largest NASA has ever built by length and volume, and it was manufactured at Michoud using state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment. Michoud is a unique, advanced manufacturing facility where the agency has built spacecraft components for decades, including the space shuttle's external tanks and Saturn V rockets for the Apollo program.

Thailand SMART Visa
Thailand's Smart Visa program is a groundbreaking initiative designed to attract highly skilled professionals, investors, entrepreneurs, and startup founders to the Kingdom. Launched in 2018 by the Thai government, the Smart Visa aims to bolster Thailand's economic growth by fostering innovation, technology development, and foreign investment. Unlike traditional visas, the Smart Visa offers a host of exclusive benefits, including extended stay periods, work authorization, and streamlined immigration processes. This article provides an in-depth analysis of the Thailand Smart Visa, covering its eligibility criteria, application process, benefits, and strategic considerations for prospective applicants.
Overview of the Thailand Smart Visa
The Smart Visa is a specialized visa category tailored to meet the needs of high-potential individuals and businesses in targeted industries. It is part of Thailand's broader strategy to position itself as a regional hub for technology, innovation, and investment. The program is administered by the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) in collaboration with the Immigration Bureau and other government agencies.
The Smart Visa is divided into four categories, each catering to a specific group of applicants:
Smart T (Talent): For highly skilled professionals in targeted industries.
Smart I (Investor): For investors in technology-driven businesses.
Smart E (Executive): For executives of companies operating in targeted industries.
Smart S (Startup): For founders of innovative startups.
Eligibility Criteria
Each Smart Visa category has specific eligibility requirements, but all applicants must meet the following general criteria:
Targeted Industries: Applicants must work in or invest in one of Thailand's targeted industries, which include:
Digital technology and software development
Advanced manufacturing and automation
Biotechnology and medical technology
Renewable energy and environmental technology
Food and agriculture technology
Tourism and hospitality innovation
Qualifications and Experience:
Smart T: Applicants must possess specialized skills and at least three years of experience in their field.
Smart I: Investors must commit a minimum of THB 20 million in a Thai business.
Smart E: Executives must hold a senior position in a company operating in a targeted industry.
Smart S: Startup founders must have an innovative business model and secure approval from a recognized Thai startup incubator or accelerator.
Financial Requirements: Applicants must demonstrate sufficient financial resources to support themselves and their dependents during their stay in Thailand.
Health Insurance: Applicants must have health insurance coverage of at least USD 50,000 for the duration of their stay.
Application Process
The Smart Visa application process involves several steps, each requiring careful preparation and documentation. Below is a detailed breakdown:
1. Pre-Application Preparation
Identify the appropriate Smart Visa category based on your qualifications and objectives.
Gather all required documents, including proof of qualifications, financial statements, and health insurance.
2. Submission of Application
Submit the application through the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) or the One Start One Stop Investment Center (OSOS).
Pay the application fee, which varies depending on the visa category.
3. Review and Approval
The BOI reviews the application and conducts due diligence to verify the applicant's eligibility.
If approved, the BOI issues a Smart Visa endorsement letter.
4. Visa Issuance
Present the endorsement letter and supporting documents to the Thai Immigration Bureau.
Pay the visa fee and receive the Smart Visa.
5. Registration and Reporting
Upon arrival in Thailand, register your address with the Immigration Bureau.
Submit periodic reports as required by the visa conditions.
Benefits of the Smart Visa
The Smart Visa offers a range of exclusive benefits designed to attract and retain high-potential individuals and businesses:
Extended Stay Periods:
Smart Visa holders can stay in Thailand for up to 4 years, with the option to renew.
This is significantly longer than traditional visas, which typically allow stays of 1 year or less.
Work Authorization:
Smart Visa holders are authorized to work in Thailand without the need for a separate work permit.
This simplifies the process for professionals and executives employed by Thai companies.
Multiple Entries:
The Smart Visa allows unlimited entries and exits from Thailand, providing flexibility for international travel.
Family Inclusion:
Spouses and children of Smart Visa holders are eligible for dependent visas, allowing them to live and study in Thailand.
Streamlined Processes:
The Smart Visa application process is faster and more efficient than traditional visa routes.
Dedicated support is available through the BOI and OSOS.
Tax Incentives:
Smart Visa holders may be eligible for tax exemptions or reductions on personal income earned in Thailand.
Strategic Considerations for Applicants
While the Smart Visa offers numerous advantages, prospective applicants should consider the following factors to maximize their chances of success:
Industry Alignment: Ensure that your qualifications, experience, and business activities align with Thailand's targeted industries.
Documentation: Prepare comprehensive and accurate documentation to support your application, including proof of qualifications, financial resources, and health insurance.
Professional Assistance: Engage a qualified immigration lawyer or consultant to navigate the application process and address any challenges.
Long-Term Planning: Consider your long-term goals and how the Smart Visa can support your personal and professional objectives in Thailand.
Compliance: Adhere to all visa conditions, including reporting requirements and health insurance obligations, to maintain your Smart Visa status.
Recent Developments and Trends
Since its launch, the Smart Visa program has undergone several updates to enhance its appeal and effectiveness:
Expansion of Targeted Industries: The Thai government has expanded the list of targeted industries to include emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and fintech.
Digital Transformation: The BOI has introduced online application platforms and digital services to streamline the Smart Visa process.
Increased Focus on Startups: The Smart S category has been strengthened to attract more innovative startups and foster Thailand's startup ecosystem.
Partnerships with Incubators: The BOI has partnered with leading Thai and international incubators to identify and support high-potential startups.
Challenges and Limitations
Despite its many benefits, the Smart Visa program is not without challenges:
Stringent Eligibility Criteria: The program's high standards may exclude some qualified individuals and businesses.
Limited Awareness: Many potential applicants are unaware of the Smart Visa and its benefits, limiting its reach.
Administrative Complexity: The application process, while streamlined compared to traditional visas, can still be complex and time-consuming.
Dependence on BOI Approval: The BOI's approval process is subjective and may result in inconsistencies.
Conclusion
The Thailand Smart Visa is a transformative initiative that reflects the country's commitment to innovation, technology, and foreign investment. By offering extended stay periods, work authorization, and streamlined processes, the Smart Visa provides a compelling opportunity for highly skilled professionals, investors, executives, and startup founders to contribute to Thailand's economic growth. However, the program's stringent eligibility criteria and administrative complexities require careful planning and preparation. By understanding the requirements, leveraging professional assistance, and aligning with Thailand's strategic priorities, prospective applicants can unlock the full potential of the Smart Visa and achieve their personal and professional goals in the Kingdom. As Thailand continues to evolve its immigration policies, the Smart Visa will remain a cornerstone of its efforts to attract global talent and investment.

Miss Terra I love your career posts! I can't wait to be a professional woman. What does a museologist daily work look? 💖
it looks different depending on what you do! :-) <3
curatorial is largely sitting in the grey computer offices back of house just sending emails. if you aren't senior leadership your job is basically to make the actual curators job easier! you kiss a lot of asses but it's so worth it to see the community engaging with your programming on opening night
registrarial deals with the direct care and upkeep of artworks and artifacts so you "get to" touch paintings but it's largely just record keeping to ensure nothing gets lost
publicity is primarily social media and ads, so you have to know how to at least use reels and tiktok video editing and effectively get at least 2k likes on your posts! You have to go to every event. Finding artists willing to be profiled weekly is harder than expected. You also have to make the graphic designs for posters, brochures, flyers, postcards. you will learn to make an automated mailing list for every institutional leader in the area and track down your email clicks
In a small museum, everyone does everything! Your duties will change with whoever needs you the most
The academia side of things is most removed from the actual museum! But you will research and teach about curatorial trends and deal with all the ethics of museum in the safety of a classroom where you won't get fired for calling out toxic managers

Personal Log
Star Date: 75010.2
I return to duty after three months of intensive integration and recovery on Trill at the Symbyosis Commitee Campus.
Well, one month tense negotiation and interrogation followed by two months of intensive recovery.
Sonan's death was--still is unthinkable. However it was no question that in that moment I would accept Baz, the symbiont. To turn him away would be to turn away Sonan and seven other souls. To not accept would be against everything I worked for as a qualified Host. To protect them in times of crisis is an honor, even if temporarily. Re-association would not be tolerated long term. I knew this.
I did not know that Baz was not onboard with 'temporary'. The first feeling I remember was relief. Not quite mine, not quite not-mine. Then an overwhelming rush of resolution. I knew then that Penn Te'are was gone. That my name was Penn Baz. My husband and former host Sonan Baz was dead.
And this was not going to go over well.
To their credit, The Symbiosis Commission was only doing their job. They were persistent that I should relinquish Baz. It was not too late by medical standards. And, truth be told, I might have agreed, if it wasn't for the insistence of Baz bubbling within me that this was what was wanted. After a month of tense negotiations, the committee was forced to agree. A representative of Starfleet was called to perform a mind meld with the symbiont. It expressed that this experience was highly prized for this individual symbiont, irrelevant of the hosts. While I'm not sure yet if I myself completely agree, I accept this honor and adventure. Even if it complicates my grief...
After some integrations and orientation, I was deemed fit to return to duty. I was not to return to The Valentine and reassigned to The Hardaway with orders pending. 820 personnell, heavy weaponry and regenerative hull, I'm pretty sure we aren't about do be doing milk runs. Suits me fine. You don't become Starfleet for the mundane.
The crew is definitely an interesting mix.
The only one I've been able to meet personally thus far is my 'Number One'. Commander Orlal Oronat had been kind enough to provide me with a detailed report regarding my senior staff. She seems most adept at maintaining morale onboard. She has also populated my calendar with crew events and organizations. Goodness. For a ship with no family support, it seems that we do not lose the ability to care for our crew.
Captain Kovek. Helmsman. I'll say I'm shocked. The Vulcan who performed our mind meld doesn't captain his own vessel; He is flying mine? Not a coincidence clearly, but I'll leave it. His service record is nigh legendary. Replimat talk is that he outstripped a Vesta in a Galaxy class. Let them "observe" me, I look forward to seeing his performance.
Let's see, Chief Engineer. LT. Commander D'yan Jrooi. He's just completed a fellowship the Daystrom institute hosted by Temporal Affairs. I'll admit to being curiously disturbed. Something about Daystrom and time evokes the sound of the Prime Directive shattering. I'll keep an open mind, I imagine that a Sikaran is more interested in automation than auto distruct.
Lt. Commander Niri. Oh..a Tamarian. A freshly minted Chief Science Officer. Exolinguistics specialty. It seems she's working on a Standard Tamarian for Terrans as a part of her continuing studies. Per her status update the project is "Mother-in-Law, her visit extended". I guess that means "a nightmare".
Dr. Fuya has recently taken over the position of Chief Medical officer. He's by all accounts an exceptionally well loved man. Glowing recommendations from the Kais overseeing the orphanages on Bajor and commendations from Starfleet medical for courage under fire. There's some mention here of ruffled feathers due to the current organization overhaul in Sickbay. It seems the doctors impeccable bedside manner may be reserved for the patients.
Let's see, and to round it all out my Tactical Officer, Commander Sivalaa Maata has recently returned to ship duty after completing an intensive security training detail with former KDF and Ex-Borg Personnel. Her file also shows various leaves and assignments to all corners of known space. Though I'm seeing a conspicuous absence of Orion or her larger colonies in that list.
All told, it appears we are well suited to handle whatever Starfleet wants to throw us into. We've got one more night in space dock before receiving our orders and it seems that everything is running smoothly. I'll spend some time unpacking before I make my rounds and get familiarized with the faces.
Sonan, I'm not so sure that we should be doing this. I really hope this isn't a giant mistake. Of course, if it is a giant mistake, at least it's a historic one. Who doesn't like making history?
Right....big smiles everyone in there. Here we go.

Freedom or Reality
@flashfictionfridayofficial

Carter celebrated the dark New Year with a homeward walk across the synthetic parks covered in plastic trees. The blocky statues provided artificial oxygen, but Carter kept the gas mask on as the smog was getting too noxious, and it grew with the black smoke coning from the automated cars. It wasn't dangerous walking at night, though Carter had to calm down after hearing moaning howls breaking the silence.
There weren't many people even in daylight and the few out at night got their kicks pushing uppers, downers, and sidewinders to runaways looking for relief. The lost Johnnies seemed to grow in number, and their cybernetics are rusting almost as quickly as the seniors. Speaking of, the seniors out under the young and middle aged many times over, with retirement facilities every on street.
Carter felt listless and isolated in this electric rural wasteland. Perpetually bored of the misery and unable to care about the blood sports occupying everyone's head. What Carter really wanted was... Oh, it was never going to happen, so Carter saved the energy for walking and hearing for howls.
Carter returned to a shambled house with vines growing around neon lights. The inside fared slightly better with heaps of broken computers littering the floor like tiny mountains. Carter took off the gas mask to reveal a pale face covered in lesions and logged onto the computer to check the forums. A barrage of flashing lights and stimuli bombarded the numbed Carter, with a video of the president speaking monotonously, local moralists raising a stink about the number of books being burned, messages asking for donations for UFO investigations.
Carter went through the motions and clicked away, signing away money and signatures to make the posts end. It was part of being a model citizen to accept everything hitting you and drudgery meant patriotism. But Carter misclicked and went down a tunnel of information from an email meant to be spam. A name Carter never heard before.
It was from a user named Praxis. Inside was a link that beckoned Carter to open.
No one will help you but yourself. Not the government, not God. There is technology that shows reality like you have never dreamed of. We will no longer decay by flesh or silicon. This must be secret so that the police and pastors do not hunt you down. They will not believe that I am already dead and can communicate.
Carter felt a chill. Why did Praxis sound familiar? What was this message about? And more importantly, could there be an escape from the doldrums of life? Carter would no longer be a cog in the machine but something greater. Something freer. It was frightening to head into the unknown where death seemed so close yet trivial.
It tantalized Carter, however, with feelings. Honest feelings that felt human and full. A spirit of freedom that coursed throughout the body, or the parts that still ran with blood and not gas. It was sacrilege to turn technology into a deity, yet it was delicious to taste that ascension denied to common workers. The gas mask would be replaced with the interface.

Here is an example of a good boss. TL;DR: Your boss should always advocate for you when people higher up on the corporate ladder are asking you to do things that are unreasonable and/or not in your job description. Work/life balance is important for everyone, but especially when your job is not life and death. If someone isn't going to die/get injured because you didn't do the thing that's not in your job description, you should not be expected to do the thing.
First, a little background. I work as an email developer for an office supply distributor. My job basically is to build and send out all email communications, both internal and external. I work on a couple landing pages (web pages) too, but email is my main role.
Here is the cast of characters: CW icon: my boss, Marketing Automation Manager LS icon: my teammate, who fills in for me when I'm gone, but mostly works with our customers (people who buy products from us). We have a bunch of email marketing programs they can sign up for that we create for them that pulls in their logo and links to their website. She supports and trains them. She's also basically the cishet version of my spouse. They both have fibromyalgia, autism and ADHD. E: Director of Communications C: Senior Director of Customer Care and Sales J: Director of Marketing Operations (my boss' boss) G and C: Managers of External and Internal Communications, respectively
Laughing react is from my boss. Don't you love how E is using words like "empower" to make it sound like being on call 24/7 is a thing we'd want to do? Like we'd feel we were missing out on an opportunity by not taking on extra work that's not in our job description and not something we'd get paid extra to do because we're salaried.
For real, nobody ever died because they couldn't order post-its.
And here's the thing: we have a really awesome team. We do work really hard and we are really appreciated. I can't tell you how many times when I actually go into the office that people tell me this. I hear it at least once a visit. I only go into the office for free food because there is literally no reason I need to be there to do my job. I don't collaborate with anyone. I just copy/paste and wait for people to get their shit together.
E literally just had her 1 year anniversary with the company a few weeks ago too. Oh, I looked her up on LinkedIn and apparently her bachelors is in textiles and weaving. So there's that.
I've been here for 7 years and my boss for 9. LS only has 3 years, but she's fit in amazingly well and done such a great job with her responsibilities. LS and I are happy in our roles and honestly have no desire to move up and take on more responsibilities. The reason we love our jobs is because of the balance and flexibility we have. Being able to shut your laptop and rest or just live your life is important to us. Are we willing to hop on if there's something urgent and we're not busy? Sure. But as my boss said, we're not taking our laptops to the grocery store and whipping them out to send out something that absolutely can wait because nobody is going to die if they can't order paperclips. We don't sell medical supplies (other than first aid supplies). We sell a wide range of office supplies, but literally nothing anyone would result in someone dying if they didn't get in a timely manner.
So yeah, if your boss can see thought the "opportunity for empowerment" bullshit, they're a keeper.
